The Importance of Tree Trimming

Proper tree trimming is an essential element of overall tree care and long-term health of your tree. Our ISA Certified Arborists® are experts at identifying the pruning needs of any tree.

Trees are an investment, and it’s important to take proper care of them to ensure they stay healthy, thrive in their urban environment, and add value to your property for years to come. Regular tree trimming allows us to help you do just that, all while helping to avoid potential issues down the road.

Pruning young trees helps to establish a beneficial limb structure enabling your tree to grow in a way that prolongs its lifespan and helps to keep your tree healthy.

Pruning more established trees helps to allow for more light and air to pass through the crown, this can help mitigate any potential storm damage and benefits both the health of the tree and any vegetation growing underneath the shade of the canopy.

There are many risks associated with incorrect pruning or trimming practices, the most severe being a reduction in the tree’s lifespan. Often when a tree is pruned incorrectly it is forever changed, making any attempt to “fix it” costly and frustrating.Getting your tree assessed by our team and trimmed by one of our skilled crews is the best way to ensure that your tree lives a long and healthy life.

We Adhere to ANSI Guidelines

The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has set forth guidelines for tree pruning and trimming that we adhere to in order to help further ensure practices that are safe and in the best interest of your trees. These standards for tree pruning are comprised of 4 sections; crown cleaning, thinning, raising, and reducing (only performed when appropriate).

Dead and Damaged Wood Removal (previously known as crown cleaning)

Removal of dead, dying, diseased, and structurally unsound branches within the crown.

Raising the Tree

Raising your tree grants enough space for the vertical clearance necessary to walk underneath the tree, this is frequently required to be within city codes.

Selective Trimming of the Tree (previously known as thinning)

Selective trimming of the tree is the artful removal of living plant material from dense areas within your tree, this helps to reduce weight and allows for wind to pass through your tree more safely.

We proudly adhere to these standards because doing so sets us apart, and helps us to keep the trees in our community strong and healthy. Texas Tree Surgeons takes pride in a job well done. After we have completed your tree pruning, we will happily haul away the debris we created in the process in one of our trailers or chipper trucks. If you would prefer to have any of the wood either stacked on your curb, or left for your use (i.e. firewood) just let us know, we are happy to help. It is our goal to leave your trees in beautiful condition, and your yard in better shape than when we first arrived.

We do not collect payment until after the customer is completely satisfied with our work. When working with a living thing there is a limit of scope coverage. If a customer has concerns about the health of a tree after services are performed we will work together to an agreeable solution.

While it is possible to trim a tree’s canopy to increase the amount of light that reaches the ground below we do not recommend trimming away a large section of the trees canopy because this will eventually lead to tree decline and death. To understand why trees need leaves and how reducing a trees canopy is harmful to their health please read our blog here.

Restoration pruning done in tandem with a Tree Health Care plan will achieve the best results post storm damage.

The  goal of restoration pruning is to help reduce the likelihood of limb or tree failure, increase vigor, and long-term structure. Restoration is a multi visit process that can not be remedied in one visit. To ensure healthy progress an ISA certified arborist will make at minimum annual assessments and may come more depending on the tree.

Each tree will have a unique set of variables to work with and progress can take up to 10 years to see full results with some trees never regaining prior damage status. Arborists will determine viability at each assessment and update treatment plans as needed.

Happy with the tree trimming, not happy with the cleanup. I had 5 mature oak trees trimmed. I spent a solid hour the next day cleaning up all the sticks and green leaf debris left all over the place. They blew off the walkways, but just blew the debris up against my house and behind my AC unit. The tees look much better and the overall price was reasonable, but the cleanup needs improvement. The arborist and lead tree tech, however, were both very professional and knowledgeable.
Response from the owner:We are sorry to see you did not have a top-notch experience with clean up post trimming. We will reach out to our foremen and do an internal review on clean up procedures with our team because this is not a reflection of quality that we uphold at Texas Tree Surgeons. We are glad that you were satisfied with the professionalism and knowledge of your arborist, and lead tree tech. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I have an enormous 60+ year old mulberry, and Texas Tree Surgeons saved it when its trunk started splitting in half. By bracing it with a rod and strategically placed cables back in 2019, I've been able to enjoy it for 7 more years than I expected... and counting.
Response from the owner:That is such great news! We are so happy to hear the interventions we put in place are working and we look forward to providing care to your mulberry tree well into the future. We ❤️🌳 and happy customers!
