Tree Removal

We Love Trees

Tree Removal by a Local Arborist you can Trust

Tree removal in an urban environment like North Texas can be challenging and require professionals who use safety equipment and riggings to assess possible risks.

At Texas Tree Surgeons we strictly follow TCIA and ISA guidelines, we are insured, bonded, and have general liability and workman’s compensation insurance.

Why Use a Certified Arborist for Tree Removal?

Urban environment  tree removal is a specialized skill due to several factors that create a possible hazardous  situation.

  • Limited space
  • Utility lines
  • AC units / pool equipment
  • Electrical
  • City ordinances

Dangerous Tree Removal

Dead and dying trees become increasingly weak and brittle the longer they are present. Having a local arborist who is also TRAQ certified (tree risk assessment qualification) to evaluate safety and timing of removals is critical.

When a tree has become diseased and is either incurable or too far gone to respond to treatment, removal is often the only option, especially if the disease in question (for example oak wilt) can spread to other trees in the area.

Root Rot and Risk of Tree Failing During Tree Removal Process

Knowing if a tree is stable enough to be removed by professional tree climbers is critical. Root rots such as Ganoderma, Krutchmaria, etc. will make trees structurally unsound. Diagnosis of a trees stability prior to removal is necessary. An ISA Certified Arborist can determine the risk or tree removal prior to starting the job.

TRAQ Certified Arborists for Tree Removal

Understanding and evaluating weakness in the tree prior to removal is important to know because it will eliminate risk to property and workers during the process. Trees with different defects, cavities, diseases, and fungal rots need to be removed differently for safety.

Climbers vs Machinery for Tree Removal

When a tree isn’t safe for a climber, sometimes we need to bring in cranes and heavy machinery. Just using this kind of equipment can drive up the cost, but with safety as our main priority, this can become the best possible option. Cranes and big machines need plenty of space to operate. At Texas Tree Surgeons, we are proud to offer both equipment based removals as well as experienced climbers who use the DRT (Double Rope Technique) to move safely around the tree, making precise and controlled cuts.

Tree Removal Process

The tree removal process starts with safety. After a tree has been TRAQ assessed by a ISA Certified Arborist and has been deemed safe for our climbers to ascend they will outfit themselves with proper safety equipment and tools.

Climbers typically begin in the top section of the tree. Larger limbs are cut into smaller pieces on site and eased down to the ground by using ropes. This rope rigging allows us to safely control their descent. Once the tree trunk is all that remains the crew then begins removing the smaller sections of the trunk from the top down, until it becomes short enough to cut as low as possible to the ground, usually a few inches above the grade.

Depending on the size of the tree trunk, our Certified Arborists can discuss stump removal with you.

As the tree is being removed our groundsmen safely remove debris off site to be hauled away. At Texas Tree Surgeons debris haul off is included with all of our removals. If you would like any of the tree limbs left on site for your personal use (e.g. firewood) just let us know, we are happy to help.

Once a tree has been removed you won’t be able to plant another tree in that same spot immediately, and should wait for a few years. Issues can arise in the new tree for multiple reasons; roots from previous tree impeding growth of new tree, soil stripped of nutrients from former tree, disease or insect that killed the former tree could still be present in the soil and infect the new tree.

Removals and trims are priced by work necessary. Given that we have several crews that range in size and manpower, time on-site can fluctuate.

CLIMBING LINE & DRT

Safety for our climbers and your property is important to us at Texas Tree Surgeons. Our climbers use climbing line (specially designed rope) and use DRT (Double Rope Technique) to help them move safely within the tree canopy.

REDUCING RISK & LIABILITY

The use of cranes help arborists lift and maneuver tree sections over obstacles such as houses or power lines, when dealing with dead or weakened trees, significantly reducing the risk of damage and liability. Dead branches and decayed tree structures pose significant safety hazards to climbers and ground crew.

WHY USE A CRANE FOR TREE REMOVAL

What determines if a crane should be used over climbers is when; root rots such as Ganoderma or Kretzchmaria make the tree weak and structurally unsound, splitting, hornets living inside the hollow,  or a tree to far gone from Hypoxylon Canker.

CRANE TREE REMOVAL

Different problems like cracks, holes, sickness, or rot mean you’ve gotta approach removing the tree differently to stay safe. When a tree is not safe for a climber, the use of cranes and grapple saw trucks are sometimes neccessary . Use of machinery, while likely more expensive, provides huge safety benefits and can significantly reduce risk.

MEASURING DBH

The best way to approximate the size of a tree is to measure their dbh, (diameter, breast, height). This enables our arborists to estimate the amount needed for Tree Health Care products or pricing for Tree Removal.

LARGE LIMB BEING LOWERED

When a tree or large limb is being removed, it is roped off and lowered to the ground so nothing is damaged in the process. Our work is done by trained tree climbers with specialized equipment.

Groundsmen clearing debris.
SAFETY FIRST

To ensure a safe work environment groundsmen will clear excess debris intermittently while tree trimming or removal takes place. Clearing the site as the tree is trimmed also ensures jobs are done in a timely manner.

RIGGING IN LARGE TREES

Our crews use ropes designed specifically for tree care because they must be able to withstand friction against the tree and be able to hold hundreds of pounds.

LARGE TREE REMOVAL

We only work with highly skilled teams of climbers and groundsmen who are experienced in technical tree work. In addition Texas Tree Surgeons is insured and bonded for your protection.

ATTENTION TO DETAIL

Our goal when we leave a job site is to leave it looking better than how we found it. That means picking up any debris that were created when trimming or removing a tree.

FULL CLEAN-UP

To ensure a job is completed quickly groundsmen will haul away brush intermittently while trimming or removal happens to keep the site clear and safe to move around. Groundsmen will chip the material on-site as needed to make sure all debris is collected and removed at the end of the job.

The storm on Sunday took off a huge branch and almost half of our 97 year old sycamore tree that towers above our house. fortunately it fell into our pool vs our house. I texted Emily at Tree Surgeons and she came over to give estimate that evening She set us up for Tuesday and arranged special accommodation for the large branches disposal. I’ve used Tree Surgeons a number of times and always been pleased by their work , and their arborists. Their prices are fair and their crews are hard working and polite .
Response from the owner:Ann, thanks for the fantastic review we appreciate your support and patronage, and look forward to servicing your needs in the future, we will definitely make sure to share your great feedback with Emily - The Texas Tree Surgeons Team!

Russel came out for an estimate on trimming several trees, including 2 large live oaks. He thoroughly explained what needed to be done with each tree and why. He promptly sent a written estimate, which was less costly than expected. They have already completed the first portion of the job, as Russel recommended delaying the live oak pruning until next month. The crew was very professional, prompt, and efficient. The trees look great. I look forward to them returning next month to finish the job.

We were concerned that a limb on our Red Oak probably needed prompt removal. Texas Tree Surgeons sent one of their master arborists, Emily Long to take a look at the tree, confirmed the limb needed removal and gave an expert overview for further care of the tree, with further pruning next fall/winter season. Their crew came the next day to remove the limb, made a good cut, and cleaned the yard of the sawdust. Very highly recommend their tree service.
