How to Become a Designated Arbor Day Foundation Tree Campus Healthcare

Jan 12, 2026

Tree Campus Healthcare recognizes hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and senior-care facilities that integrate trees into their wellness and healing environments. Trees on medical campuses reduce patient stress, support recovery, and improve overall staff well-being.

To become designated as an Arbor Day foundation Tree Campus Healthcare your facility will need to accomplish the following five program standards:

  • Establish an Advisory Committee of at least three stakeholders, including staff and community members.
  • Develop a Tree Care Plan tailored to healthcare contexts.
  • Undertake a Community Forestry Project to engage patients and staff.
  • Organize Educational or Celebration Events, such as Arbor Day programming.
  • Commit to a Financial Investment in tree-related activities.

How Can Texas Tree Surgeons Help Your Campus Become a Recognized Healthcare Facility?

In order to achieve the five standards listed; Advisory Committee, Tree Care Plan, Community Forestry Project, Educate / Celebrate, and Financial Investment our Registered Consulting Arborist’s (RCA) will provide science-based concrete documentation that can be used for your Arbor Day Foundation application.

What is a Tree Care Plan?

A Tree Care Plan is a guide that details planting, care, and the protection of trees around your tree campus.

  • A Site Manager, like a certified consulting arborist to oversee the execution of the plan.
  • Tree Inventory this includes a comprehensive, data-driven survey of all the trees on a property or in a specific area. It records key information about each tree, including species, size, location, condition, and maintenance needs. Using modern tools like GPS, GIS mapping, and digital tagging, our certified arborists collect and organize this information into an actionable format tailored to your specific goals.
  • Tree Survey  is a comprehensive environmental assessment that documents the condition, location, species, and potential impact of trees on a property.
  • How the campus will adhere to tree care industry standards and best practices in planting, maintenance (trimming & health), construction protection, and tree removal.
  • Dictate tree protection standards that must be followed if and when there are construction projects on sight that include procedures for third parties, penalties, and enforcement policy
  • Lastly goals for the next five years in how the campus will manage and/or add trees to the campus.
